The 2015 convention theme is Resilience: Power of the Asian Leader.

Resilience is an attribute that is often used to describe Asians.  We believe this to be a quality that builds great leaders.   The NAAAP Convention will be a holistic experience that encompass “The 3-C’s:”
  • Competencies: foundational skills that build strong leaders.  These include the topics of communication, public speaking, problem solving, relationship & team building, financial literacy, business development, planning, cross-cultural skills, leading with courage, getting promoted, and organizational savvy.
  • Condition: effective leaders cultivate effective relationships and strong families, and maintain good personal health and wellness.  Resilient leaders are purposeful in creating healthy conditions for healthy living for themselves that those they care about.  We welcome program submissions that include topics of exercise, health, diet, stress management, time management, successful parenting, and financial planning.
  • Community: leaders have the responsibility to make their communities better.  We seek educational programs on building successful ERG/BRG/employee groups, effective networking, engaging volunteers, social and political issues impacting Asians in the U.S. and Canada, community-building program ideas, and partnership ideas.

This interactive workshop empowers individuals to make an unforgettable first impression by helping them communicate their current value and future potential with clarity, consistency, and confidence. Participants will walk away with a clear understanding of how one’s professional image is built through all facets of their communication channels, and will also gain practical tips on ways to optimize their appearance, behavior, and communication to leave a memorable first impression.

Personality, the Secret Sauce of Leadership

How we think, communicate, problem-solve, and lead are determined by our personality styles and the traits of those we interact with. In this era of "temporary teams," leaders and team members have to immediately optimize and synchronize their individual strengths in order to be effective. Differences among team members may result in communication related barriers, decreasing team cohesion and team performance. Strong leaders understand how to leverage the differences in work styles and allow team members to communicate and interact in a way that delivers.

This workshop will explore how people can think better, communicate better and cultivate better relationships within a team.

Get Engaged with the White House Initiative on AAPIsThe White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (WHIAAPI) was reestablished by President Obama in 2009 under Executive Order 13515 to improve the quality of life and opportunities for AAPIs. During this workshop, WHIAAPI Deputy Director Jason Tengco will give an overview of key issues impacting AAPIs, including education, immigration, health, and pathways to public service. Participants will brainstorm and create unique plans to address these issues, discuss ways to work together in coalition with the public and private sector, and share ways in which WHIAAPI and the federal government can support these efforts.
